Copy autocomplete / nicknames in Outlook

Q. I've just upgraded my computer and now my "Autocomplete" is not working when I'm typing my emails. How do I fix this?

A. Assuming you still have your old computer, you can copy it.

Its always a good idea to add people to your address book as well. So that when your account is moved (whether on Exchange or just the PST file), it has all those email addresses. Also, the autocomplete function is pretty random and has the tendency to add people you don't actually want to the list.

Exit Outlook before starting the following procedure. The names will be included in AutoComplete when you restart Outlook.

1. On the computer with the saved AutoComplete names, go to drive:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

2. Locate and copy profile name.nk2

3. On the computer where you want to populate the AutoComplete feature, copy the file to drive:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

If the Outlook user profile name is different on the computer where you are moving the .nk2 file, you must rename the file with the same Outlook user profile name after you copy it to the correct folder.
For Example:
Old PC: Jane Doe.nk2 and Outlook user profile name Jane Doe
New PC: Outlook user profile name Jane.Doe, then you have to rename to Jane.Doe.nk2.

4. Replace the .nk2 on the new computer and restart Outlook.

Thanks - it worked. When you install Outlook and realise that the nicknames are missing, it already creates .nk2 file, so you can just replace it with the one from your old system/account. Its not always the same as Username - it can be Outlook.nk2.
