Usability just took one step back

What is this garbage? The indicator plugin is unconfigurable and contains two buttons which are completely unrelated to the volume control. I don't want them and I don't need them and I want to remove them, but the plugin doesn't have a properties dialog! Besides, the volume slider is not vertical, completely opposite to the idiom. Does this mean that Xfce is going the way of Gnome and enforcing stupid defaults that you can't turn off. FFS, I switched away from Gnome and KDE PRECISELY to avoid such UI-fascism! Do I need to go back to fvwm now?
